Westbank First Nation, B.C. – First Nations Finance Authority (FNFA) has successfully issued its largest bond to date raising $840 million for First Nation priorities across Canada. The financing will support major community-driven investments in renewable energy, safe and affordable housing, and critical infrastructure, pushing FNFA’s total investment in member communities beyond $6 billion.
“First Nations are not only participating in Canada’s economy, we are helping drive its growth,” said Chief Gordon BlueSky, FNFA Board Chair and Chief of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Manitoba (Treaty 1). “This issuance demonstrates the confidence investors have in our leadership, our projects, and our vision for the future.”
Backed by FNFA’s AA credit rating, the issuance attracted strong demand from domestic and international investors seeking stability, sustainability-focused investment, and long-term value. The continued demand for FNFA-issued debt reflects investor confidence in First Nations as economic leaders and trusted partners in building Canada.
“This bond further validates our position as a trusted vehicle for attracting private capital to Canada and advancing First Nations-led growth,” said Ernie Daniels, President and CEO of FNFA. “Investors continue to choose FNFA because of our proven track record, diversified model and the types of Nation-building projects we finance that deliver lasting economic and social benefits for all Canadians.”
FNFA’s pooled borrowing model enables First Nations to access long-term, affordable financing for their chosen projects. The model allows communities to accelerate priority investments while maintaining financial flexibility and control over development decisions. It has become a globally recognized example of how Indigenous governments can successfully access capital markets at scale.
As economic development opportunities continue to expand across Canada, FNFA remains focused on ensuring First Nations have access to the affordable capital needed to lead major projects, build community wealth, and create prosperity for future generations.
